“You left the bodies and you only moved the gravestones!”

This haunting, creepy line comes from one of the scariest horror films to be released in 1982, Poltergeist. In the movie, a family moves into a new home, but finds that their home sits on top of an old graveyard, and the developer simply moved the gravestones, leaving the bodies behind, which was the cause of all the hauntings in the movie.

I recently came across a social media post suggesting that there are apartments and Baker College in Muskegon, Michigan that sit on an old burial site, and one person suggests there may still be have human remains under the foundation.

Apparently, the Forest Home Cemetery established in 1982 had 24 graves in total, was gone by 1910, and the bodies of those who had died were transferred to Oakwood Cemetery in Muskegon. Later, the land that once housed the cemetery would become the site of a government housing project in 1943 called Forest Homes. Eileen B. left a comment that her relatives were in fact buried at Forest Home and claims there is a chance some bodies are still there:

I had relatives buried there. My mom reported it many years ago, and Lisa Medendorp wrote a great investigative story in the Muskegon Chronicle. They claimed the bodies had been moved, but there was never any evidence.

There is a video here which gives a very brief overview and timeline of the cemetery closure and the start of the housing project, but it begs the question: are there still bodies under the ‘Glen Oaks Apartments and Trinity Manor? Another person even commented saying that they claimed to have read something about the discovery of skeletons on the site, however, the author of this article could not find any evidence for this article online:

It was also under the old Muskegon Regional Center for Developmental Disabilities, now Baker College, I think. I remember reading an article that they unearthed a number of skeletons when they innovated for the Center. In any case, it must have been huge. -Sandra BF-
